Another unproductive one

I'm still trying to stack up things for the Christmas fayre but its not going well.

I'm not sure if this is because of my amazing adaption to my workplace...

Yep, that's my laptop, and a lil bit of George Clooney, makes for slow sewing but that's happy slow sewing.

I had plans for 4 or 5 pouches and then to at least choose the outlines for some appliqué on some more baby vests. Didn't happen. I made...

That's 1 pouch and a pair of fingerless mitts. As you can probably tell I've never made them before and
I was a bit clueless. They are just slightly shaped tubes with an opening for the thumb. I've seen a couple of people wearing these but in patternless fleece and I thought they would be fab because I would be able to knit and have toastie hands. Then I looked up the ones I had seen, £40!! That's quite a bit out of my price range really, especially when I can make shoddy but workable copies out of fleece I had at home. This was a pillowcase I made for fun thinking it would be warm and snugly in winter. Then I thought about the fact that sleepy dribble is gross and crusty and it would be really manky and I wouldn't want to put my face on that more than one night without washing. Then I cut it up.

That boxey cosmetic bag? That's me being clever. Not that clever, just clever for me. Want to know why? Because last night I tried to figure it out on my own and did this...

What is that? Are you realising how stupid I felt? I just cut the corners of a flat pouch. However when I managed to do this...

I was so excited that I made loud sounds, ran into the sitting room and screeched about it to the mr until I registered the look on his face, remembered that this is not the sort of thing he cares even a little bit about, and that this was why I started a blog. Then I went and took a crappy iPad picture. It's made out of my tea fabric that I love to bits, though I'm not a tea drinker I think this has no impact on cute material.

Today we sold cakes at work for the charity of the year which is Alzheimer's society. We are doing it again tomorrow and I'm not a good cook, I also don't like having to wash up, ever. So I bought fairy cakes. Then I decorated them. Quite shoddily but it's not my skill. I told all my coworkers that I would be doing this and they were fine with it, I still payed money for the stuff and took a little bit of time sorting it, and tomorrow when we sell them the charity will get money, and I get to be safe in the knowledge that I haven't killed anyone with my cooking.

I can't believe how quickly this week is going, and its late, and I'm tired, and I have to make efforts to protect my cakes from the man and cat I share this home with, and I haven't even had a shower yet.

I'm leaving you with this...
That's our cat covering mr's backpack with hair. It makes her happy, it makes him cross. This makes me laugh. When she jumps on my stuff I get no sympathy, I have more stuff and she sits on it a lot more so this makes me pretty cheery!

Happy half way through the week, halfway closer to the weekend!!!!

Not a lot

I had big plans for this evening, there was going to be major sewing, planning, projects churning out. Did that happen? Nope.

This is what I scored today...
That's a metre of the pink, the other 2 are fat quarters, five 14" zips (I love zips), and 2 metres of black ric rac, I love ric rac! Though I'm not sure it its ricrac or ric rac. Ric rac looks better. I only found out about it a couple of weeks ago when I was reading someone else's blog (it was Sew Like My Mom but I don't know how to link) and went straight out on a search, I also bought my first ever pinking shears which I love!!! The man in the shop told me that they were only for bunting and if I didn't want to make bunting then there was no point in me paying out for them. I lied to him and said I loved to make bunting, then I left with my pinking shears clutched to my chest and when I got into work I unpacked them even though I had nothing to cut haha.

The zips were a bit overkill because I wanted to make a makeup bag that needed a 14" zipper on Sunday and didn't have one so the minute I got a chance I bought 5 so that it doesn't happen again for a while.

It was sausage and chips for tea! Yum yum! But not healthy at all boo. And then me and the mr caught up on I'm A Celeb from last night, I'm loving this series, some years we watch it and some we don't but its nice to have something we watch together. Mr doesn't believe Joey Essex is really that errr clever, I on the other hand have many watched episodes of TOWIE and know it to be true!

After tea we watched some Family Guy, then there was a tiny break in which I ran to my sewing machine and then it was back to the tv for tonight's I'm A Celeb. A tv night can be nice but I'm on such a sewing bug at the moment that it sort of feels like wasted time. I'm trying to chill and remember that if you work 9-6 you are allowed a little chill out time in the evenings. Still wanted to get more done though.

This is what I did in my 20 min break...
That's the front of another burp cloth, all appliquéd and ready to go-though it looks a bit uneven because of the angle, I promise it's not that bad- I'm happy with it. BUT... I wish I'd made the strip of green at the top a bit thinner but I didn't and I don't have enuf love for a do-over. If I had made it thinner I was thinking about putting another word above the PRINCE, perhaps LITTLE or FRESH. Ahhh hindsight. As I said, no do-overs here tonight.

Anyway it's getting late, so I'll leave you with a picture of the third member of my little family...
Meet Mimi, This is where she lives in the winter, the best bit is when she falls asleep and falls off :D

Happy Monday!!!

A weekend off...

So this weekend feels like my first I wasn't working in a long while (not true but the week before last I was ill with flu) and I took the opportunity to get on the sewing train.

This Friday coming is our local Christmas fayre and our little fundraising group have a table. A bit of background- my mum (breast cancer survivor) heads up our group which includes me, my auntie and a group of her wonderful friends as we raise money for the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer, last year we walked the Great Wall of China and last month we biked across Vietnam and Cambodia. Next year they are planning the trek to Machu Pichu but I might be sitting that one out.

As a group so far we have raised about 35k in 2 years and I love events like this because I feel like I can really contribute.

This is us...
I'm the tubby one on the far left, my mum is the short one holding the right hand side of the flag.

When I sat down at my sewing machine on Friday night for an hour of sewing I had no idea what I would churn out!!

It's also only the second time I've ever had to price up my items, so i will put the picture up, the prices underneath and if anyone happens to read this and thinks I'm overcharging then please comment away, I have no idea what it all should be worth to be honest.

So here I have: 3 circle key rings (£1.50 each), fabric loop keyring (£3), mini stocking (£1), Christmas appliqué newborn baby vests (£4.50 each), burp cloth/ baby mat (£9), makeup bags (£6 each), small makeup bag (the one far right (£4), squishy appliqué blocks (£3 each).

There would be more of these bits but Saturday night me and the mr went out for our 6 years of being together (it was actually last month but I was in Cambodia and have been under the weather ever since) and I decided I had nothing to wear.

Before you see the picture please bear in mind that I have made only 4 items of clothing previously and all from pattern, this was guesswork.

That's my proud face, I had at this point gotten over the fact that the waistband has a MASSIVE LUMP THAT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX and resigned myself to wearing it as is (it was 7pm and we were leaving at 7.15pm).

I'm thinking about doing a giveaway of something if I see some Internet signs of life, there will hopefully be much making in the evenings of this week so that I can bulk up that pile of fayre stock but after that I'm a free agent (though Christmas is a coming).

If you are reading then I hope you have had a fab weekend! X

Hello people of the webspace,

I'm not sure if anyone will ever read this, or if I shall throw my words out into the ether and they will never be heard of again.

So this is the bit where I tell you some about me...

My name is Laura, I'm 23 and I love to make, I have a singer talent which I love love love and a pile of fabric and scraps that I am going to try and get through this year rather than endless stockpiling with no plan.

My favourites are sewing, embroidery and knitting, but I love to try new things and will always have a go, so hopefully there will be a little bit of variety around here.

At the moment I have a 9-5 job and sometimes crafts fall off the radar, but there are stacks of tutorials out there that I have used and will happily link to if I'm too chocker. But otherwise I can't wait to share some projects!!!!

My absolute dream is to make an etsy shop and have a bit of success! And past that I'd love to some day be able to make for a living, but I know a lot of people have that dream so it may be pie in the sky.

No pic tonight due to some tech difficulties but I can't wait to share.

Nice to meet you if you have made your way here, for now its dark and raining outside, I'm picking up my fabric scissors and dreaming of sunshine days.
